Publisher 2007: Print One CD Label That Isn't Centered On Page

Something that was driving me nuts recently was the apparent inability to print just a single CD label in Publisher that wasn't centered.

Publisher's print settings by default are set to 'Multiple copies per sheet'. And if you change that to 'One page per sheet' you end up with a centered page - not what you want when you're trying to print a single CD label on a sheet of two (for instance Avery labels #5698).

The trick to print just one label is not a trick at all, but using the right commands in Publisher. There's always more than one way to do something in Office, and this happens to be one of those instances.

First of all, don't click on the default print button in the standard toolbar, unless of course you want two copies of your CD label to print out automatically to whatever printer you have set as your default.

And don't go to Print Setup from the toolbar, because it's worthless. You'll end up with the same set of frustrating and completely useless settings. Even when you select 'One page per sheet', Publisher centers the page, which again, is no good when printing labels on a two label sheet.

This is how to print the single label not centered:

Click 'File' in the toolbar
Select 'Print'

Remember, Publisher's default is set to 'Multiple copies per sheet' -

Here this is okay (If you select 'One page per sheet' here, then you'll just end up with a centered image on the page again).

Instead, leave the default setting for multiple copies, and change the 'Number of copies' to 1.

Viola!
You have a single image, not centered, that will properly fit on a two label sheet of CD labels (Avery 5698 or 8931 was used for this setup).
