Best Password Recovery Program

Offline NT Password Recovery & Registry Editor is a powerful, fast and extremely helpful program. The program not so much recovers, or uncovers a lost or forgotten password, but helps replace the existing password of any user with a valid local account on a Windows system.

The web site for the program (http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/) states this is valid on systems running Windows NT/2k/XP/Vista, but I recently used this on a Windows 7 system, and it worked beautifully.

The program performed better and easier than I expected. At first the program may appear intimidating because it runs in the command line, but it's not in the least. Although, to use the program step by step instructions are invaluable.

So if you've forgotten your password here's your best option of resetting it without reinstalling the OS.

First things first:
Download Offiline NT Password & Registry Editor: http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/

There is only one version of the program for all Windows OS. Once you download the program, don't try to open it, but burn it to CD from the .iso file.

If you're not familiar with .iso files, they are much different than burning a regular CD. If you don't have a program that will burn an .iso (Roxio has this capability) download Free Easy CD DVD Burner 3.9.

If you're not familiar with burning an .iso image see this post for step-by-step instructions:

Back to the Password Recovery How-To:

What made this program the most successful for me were the detailed instructions provided by Tim Fisher on About.com - His screen shots and instructions were easy to follow and to the point.

This link points to his instructional, picking up at the point you will insert the bootable CD you've already burned (the .iso): http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/ss/ontpre-screenshot-guide_4.htm

Tim's instructional is in two parts - don't groan, if you want this to work, go read both parts of his instructional and you'll have reset your "lost" password in record time.

Please note, as stated on the Offline NT Password & Registry Editor, the software comes with no warranty and the author is not responsible for any damage caused by the misuse of the software.
