Vista bad? There was something worse? Windows Millennium!

While everyone is either complaining about Vista, or anxiously pecking at Windows 7 beta, let's go back in time, to an OS riddled with more bugs than a flop house mattress: Windows ME.

Rated # 7 in PCWorld's list of the 25 worst tech products of all time, Microsoft Windows Millennium bridged the gap between Windows 98 SE and XP much like the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. If you were lucky enough to get it installed and running, good luck shutting it down-- remember all those hard shut downs?

Now it wasn't totally rotten awful; Windows ME did introduce system restore, but even that was sort of mixed blessing since it would restore crap you didn't want, like viruses, trojans and a whole slue of other junk files.

So if you're struggling with Vista, and dreading the coming of Windows 7 issues, just remember it's been a lot worse.
