New Program Versions that Stink: How to find the older but better versions

New software versions are not always better, and unfortunately, you don't know this until you've downloaded and installed them. Generally, when installing new programs, you've either uninstalled or deleted the earlier or "old' version. Once you've done that, well, you're pretty much stuck with the new one.

Setting a restore point on your computer can sometimes help, but you may find that even after restoring you could be missing necessary files to run the earlier version.

What to do?
You didn't save a copy of the old version and it's no longer available online... Or is it?

OldVersion.com is the answer. OldVersion.com is an archive web site, providing older versions of primarily Internet-related Freeware and Shareware applications.

Currently, OldVersion.com offers 2479 versions of 182 programs (as of October 2008), free for download, in the following categories:
  • Communication
  • Graphics
  • Multimedia
  • Internet
  • File-sharing
  • Utilities
  • Security
  • Enterprise
  • FTP
Visitors to the Old Version web site are encouraged to contribute, and most of the programs available on the site are provided by its visitors. The site owner, Alex Levine, started the web site in 2001, and pays for it with non-intrusive text ads.

The OldVersion.com web site is a must have bookmark, and a link well worth passing along to friends, family and colleagues.
